Mary Naden, Performance Alexander Technique - Takoma Park, MD, Washington DC

What is the Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique teaches you, through a series of lessons, to use your whole body with ease, efficiency, balance and power. It is proven effective in relieving back pain and other types of joint and muscle pain, and it is taught in major music and theatre schools worldwide to prevent repetitive stress injuries and to maximize performance.

Alexander Technique can help musicians   Mary works with an Alexander Technique student in Takoma Park, MD

Because the Alexander technique changes the way you think about entire body coordination patterns, it facilitates efficient, less restrictive breathing and can create a more powerful speaking and singing voice.

Students are active participants in the process of self-care. They learn to understand bodily sensations, and to recognize patterns of tension, holding and physical overworking. Teachers use gentle hands-on guidance to help students' awareness during a process of release and expansion. Because the way we feel physically affects our mental and emotional outlook, students often feel calmer and more balanced in everyday life.
